Coming Down

February 7, 2009

He would eventually come down from the speed–helped along with a bottle of Wild Turkey whiskey.

He would pass out, then wake up and talk to himself, and others who weren’t there! He would carry on long conversations with ‘them’. He’d pass out again.

This would go on for hours, sometimes a full day and night, until he finally crashed. Then he would sleep for a good 12 hours and wake up back to uh…..normal.

I learned to stay quiet and out of the way when he was coming down. If I tried to talk to him, he became angry and pushed me “Shut up bitch! I’m trying to talk here!” He was in his own little drugged-up world and I had no part in that world.

He usually only yelled at me or pushed/shoved me–

But not always……….

Oh heavens. Many speed users are known to have hallucinations and see “shadow people”. Paranoia, visuals, and then the added “stress” of coming down combined with an already messed up way of thinking can trigger some really dangerous moments.

I’ve seen this and understand how scary it is.

I can only imagine what else happened. :/

My heart goes out to you.

    Barbara,
Reading through your blogs, I had a realization about the bonsai tree that blooms at the foot of your posts.
How much it is a sweet representation of what you are doing with this blog and your life.
How a bonsai seems like a “small” tree, yet it is so strong.
When we trim the roots of things that do not serve us, we can bloom like a precious bonsai.
It seems that you are doing just that.
Thank you for letting us see that it can be done.

    Thank you ‘V’ and Lea!

Lea, the tree is supposed to represent that I’m still growing–like the blog title says. You’re the first person to comment about it. 🙂
